Biography
Mahi Binebine, born in 1959 in Marrakech, moved to Paris in 1980 to pursue studies in mathematics, a discipline he would go on to teach for eight years before dedicating himself fully to painting and writing. From 1994 to 1999, he lived in New York before returning to Paris, eventually settling permanently in Marrakech in 2002, where he currently lives and works.
His artworks are part of the collections of major institutions such as the Guggenheim Museum (New York), the Smithsonian Institution (Washington, D.C.), the Pérez Art Museum (Miami), the Institut du Monde Arabe (Paris), as well as numerous public and private collections around the world.
In parallel with his artistic practice, Mahi Binebine is the author of several novels that have been translated into over fifteen languages. Deeply committed to cultural development in Morocco, he co-chairs, alongside Nabil Ayouch, Les Étoiles cultural centers, supported by the Ali Zaoua Foundation.
